The new technical provision IFT-011-2022 (NOM-221 Part 3) was published by the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT)- the technical specifications for Mobile Terminal Equipment.
It went into effect on March 12, 2023, after being published for 180 days in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
This applies to cell phones and smart phones that uses the radio spectrum and a connection to telecommunications networks for the Cellular Broadcasting Service (CBS) to receive and process emergency alert messages.
The aforementioned devices must now meet the technical requirement of IFT-011-2022 and obtain IFT approval through testing by authorized laboratories in order to comply with the new provision.
